Movie Review: Devil (2010)
By Kevin Walton

A group of people trapped in an elevator realize that the devil is among them. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1314655/)

Having seen this movie a couple of months ago, I thought I would throw a quick blurb up here for it in time for it's NZ theatre release tomorrow.

I remember the first M. Night Shyamalan movie I ever saw, "Signs", which I thought was really good and it was one of those movies that made you jump and sent shivers down your spine. I've been a big fan, determined to see all of his movies ever since, but have been quite disappointed by many of them.

His latest movie, "Devil", is a vast improvement upon his recent attempts, mainly because someone else has directed it for him. The acting, the cinematography and the overall "finish" (i.e., look, feel, tone, etc) is very good which is a credit to John Erick Dowdle's abilities as a director.
The storyline, however, which was written by Shyamalan, is very simple and the ending is mind-numbingly predicable from very early on. He does try to incorporate an important lesson about Karma and also attonement and forgiveness through confession of sins, which makes it not a complete loss.

I would recommend this movie to anyone who wants to relax with a good thriller without having to think, wonder and guess too much.
